OKTAPODI: Save You

Get out of the coleman, my love!
Don’t leave me here all alone, I can’t carry on without you
Don’t get sliced! But if it’s the only way to be with you again, I’m coming with you!
My mind is perplexed. The kids we planned, the house we would want to build under the sea right beside the Pineapple Tree. What about them?
Keeping you safe is where my home dwells

Save me, my Love! You don’t want me to be sold for a cheaper price
Crawl, dive, risk. If these mean I could get the chance to be with you again
It just so happened the culprit’s favorite was pink, and I just can’t stand it.
Heed me, you skinny man made up of bones! Pink has never been cooler than blue, ever.
You there, my love? I was already out of the coleman, must I be saved? Must I not?
Tell me why in the world you chose Santorini over Lamborghini?

The Yellow Victory

Here I sit in the midst of the unknown
I’ve least problem what to write but know that I can manage, know that I can.
Where to write this epic poem is the very thing I am concern about
For it appears to be the world’s most vain question ever asked aside from how a warm beer goes flat, even Einstein wondered
And why did Obama’s black, I couldn’t care less.
I’m fastened on my seat and the addicting scent of Victory pad, I smell
More than the personal brand of heroin, right Edward?
My eyes were set to wander and occasionally have seen yellow papers
Calm down, I’m not lonely

In the abyss of somberness, I curse them. How dare all of them not give me a yellow piece?
I blink for five times now; the still atmosphere goes all over the place
Who will be? Who will have the courage to offer me the most important thing every planet must have?
Don’t loathe me little John, cool yourself down.
And for the record, somebody handed me the thing I have been longing to have
She saved my soul from being buried down the furnace
Somebody please, make me believe that I am writing now on my Yellow Victory for I know some waits a lifetime for such sheer dumb luck as this.

Hear No Whisper

In the western part of Virginia to where the humid atmosphere rises over the summer, where the amount of the falling leaves was enough to cover a small house or two, where the rays of the sun were faintly throbbing in the eyes of those who dare walk underneath the heat. It was the Wilders family who lives in a large middle-class village of Beech Bottom located in Brooke County and the said village was considered part of the Steubenville - Weirton Metropolitan area. Residents in the village find a lesser portion of living in poverty than most places in the state, in fact, about 93% of commuters drive to work.

Sadie Wilders has a soft, wavy, waist-long brunette hair with very big curls and that she twists in a perfectly tight bun every time she leaves the house for school. And I guess if she only lets her hair to freely flow by the cool winds, men and even women at school would have been so gentle and nice to her, unfortunately, the tight bun was part of her daily existence.

And I just noticed that the pointed part of her nose has a shape common to a leprechaun, but looked all fine if it wasn’t of her well-sculptured lips. With deep bluish eyes, you can always sail, they set the mood of peace and serenity that it can light up a five o’clock morning sky every time she blinks them. She never told me about it, I have perceived it myself the day I jogged right past her, that happened thrice.

She has this mannerism like cracking her knuckles together with closing her eyes as if ran out of patience or in pain, I don’t know.

Have I told you that Sadie assisted in a hospital at a very young age; she’s only 19 I will tell you. While I walk on the sidewalk to buy pain relievers in the drugstore, I saw her about to enter the Wheeling Hospital.

“Hello, Wheeling lady! Not to be rude but I wonder what’s in there?” I asked in my most gentle way.

“Well, you know, doctors, nurses, wheel chairs, electrocardiograms, rooms, oxygens. And that’s supposed to be a hospital,” she sarcastically answered and then goes off without saying goodbye.

“My tone might be quite offending, she did not treat me that way yesterday,” I whispered to myself, “well, she must be lucky enough I approached her first.”

But of this I am certain, there’s a feeling inside me that unconsciously knowing her all by myself has never been an accident, maybe I was fated this way.

Sadie Wilders was enrolled in Carlow University located approximately 36 miles from Beech Bottom. It was a small private non-profit university with a population of roughly 2,413 mostly females because the institution was originally a college for women and men were only admitted on 1945.

I assumed it is never too late to introduce myself. I am Brandon Jones, a graduate of Social Sciences at Carnegie Mellon College near Carlow.

It was not in Sadie’s personality that she deserves to be hated by many. I mean, my nerves, I would not befriend her if that was the impression I got the first time I hung out with her. Half of the people at school literally and metaphorically hate her from head to toe.

“Here comes our self-righteous friend who eats on her lap in the cafeteria the rest of the school days,” said Anya.

“Come on, join me!” said Sadie as she turns her back while carrying the books she has just finished reading and she was about to return them to the library.

“Don’t mind.”  She disgustingly answered.

Anya Hoffman used to be Sadie’s close friend. And she grew up in a rich family of lawyers and doctors. The reason people have to excuse her for being so dominant and arrogant.

The times when they were still friends, like normal friends would go doing: sleepovers, revealing long-kept dark secrets, talking about attractive men at school, and countless others, they seemed all right then. They were not the types to whom you dig all your energy just to get along with; in fact, they have plenty of friends around the school. Barely a day goes by without having a chit-chat with someone whom they just met the first time. Anya has always been the one who initiates a talk and as days flew so fast she noticed something strange with her friend.

“How you two are getting along?” she asked while munching Skittles in front of the laptop.

“Who? Two?” she answered back surprisingly with doubtful eyes.

“The Jones guy and you.” Anya repeated with a playful grin.

“What did I tell you about him?”

“Well, that he’s dating you weeks back?” she said as if unsure.

“Oh, I never said that plus I never knew a Jones,” she ended.

With a questionable mind, Anya turned off the computer and pulls her blanket to sleep, “Goodnight, Sadie.”

That was the last night Anya and Sadie were fine together, and the overnight was all because of one school project in which they were partners.

There were series of terrible situations to which Anya and Sadie were involved. Their friendship got lost as fast as the bursting of a bubble. No one knows how, even them.

Gone are the days when Sadie actively participates in extracurricular activities the same thing as attending classes every day. There came a point I had seen her walking down the stairs of Wheeling Hospital, without hesitation, I pulled over and drew myself closer to her and finally asked,

“What’s in here? You were always frequented going here. I rarely see you at school grounds; professors were wondering what went wrong. Days allotted for special exams are over. You need a ride?”

She panicked and screamed all over the place and I was clueless what was going on. Did I do something wrong? I tried to reevaluate my conversation with her minutes back, I proved myself guiltless. That was not the first time she ran havoc.

“Oh God, bless her,” he murmured with his palm on his face.

Maybe it was a sort of pressure and stress she has been experiencing in assisting mentally ill patients at the hospital. So I assumed, leaving her all alone would be the best remedy to cure her emotional confusion.

To calculate how long have I known Sadie since we moved here in West Virginia including the days we did not talk and the days we were not together, I have here a total of nine months not to mention the number of days we spent since childhood because that cost two lifetimes.

It was quite saddening that the girl who rode in merry-go-round to rinse down her fears was not the very girl of today who, even giving her the world, cannot merry-go-round to drown away all the mishaps bugging her entirety. She was living a life with a fear-driven purpose.

In spite of everything I know about this one Sadie Jones regardless of whether who she was or who she is or who she becomes, without her knowing what I feel, I love her dearly, truly. Perhaps, only when my family decided to not move in to Salt Lake City in Utah five years ago, I would be given a lot of chance to clear all the heart-devouring teenage emotions in my stomach.

Sadie cannot afford to attend the university with no apparent reason, as I observe she wasn’t that sick. On my part, that meant not seeing her anymore unless I go visit to their house. But there is one thing she was making herself busy aside from cracking her knuckles; it was regularly spending three hours at the hospital. I just wonder if she works there, she must be devoting of not less than eight hours.

Until one night, she was about to enter the hospital as if she was from a fight, her favorite orange shirt was ripped, smudged with grease, and her hair was loosen from being tied.

“It’s late, I’m going to drive you home,” I told her with pitiful voice.

She didn’t breathe a word; she just nodded and wrapped her arms around my waist. I heard her heart heavily pounding and her hands were trembling.

We were standing in front of their house and no one was home, so she agreed to stay at our house just for a night. My parents were on a vacation, a free trip to Bahamas; it was my brother’s gift to my mom and dad before he got married.

Sadie quickly ran into the living room to sit on the sofa and to keep herself warm in front of the fireplace.

“Brandon, may I ask you a very important question?”

“Oh yes, sure. Anything.” Brandon answered while brewing black coffees.

“You sure to let me doze off with these wet clothes on?”

“I never thought I am that stupid, Sadie. I’m sorry. Here.” Brandon answered with a red face.

Sadie fell off the carpet due to a very tight sleep. I passed through the guest room door as soundless as I can while I carried her on both arms and rested her slowly on the bed. I exited the room as I entered.

Minutes had flown by, and I heard her snoring at the top of her voice. I closed my eyes for about 20 minutes, and she screeched like she was having a nightmare. I sprinted with full rush and forcefully opened the guest room door, right in front of my face, she was sweating profusely and the shirt I lent her sipped every salt-taste water from her body.

“Don’t worry; someone was here for you, just a bad dream, okay?” Brandon pampered Sadie.

“I’m scared! I dreamt I was sleeping and when I woke up, I saw several replicas of myself. One was standing on the door, just standing. The second one was mutilating her pulse with a pair of scissors, and the other was kind of scratching the wooden floor with her razor-sharp nails,” she said with heavy breath.

“Everything’s gonna be alright, believe me. I will never leave you,” said Brandon and whispered to her, “Ever.”

Because of the outlandish nightmare of Sadie, she had something in her mind that she wanted to find her real self. The psychiatrist told her she’s suffering from a multiple personality disorder based on the psychological tests, assessment examinations, several diagnoses, and all. It was recorded there that on a Monday, she was the violent Victoria, on a Tuesday she was the timid Jenna, and on a Wednesday she doesn’t even know what her name was, who she was, everything.

Two days after Sadie had an overnight in our house, I went to a bookstore to find a certain book I have been dreaming buying for a long time, that day was only my free time to roam around places as I desire. A close friend of mine way back in middle school worked at Wheeler Hospital had seen me while I hand money to the teller.

"Hey buddy! How are you? What do you do?" Bob Runther pat me on the back with mild force.

I hadn't seen him for about three years. To my surprise, I replied, "Bob! Haven't seen you in a long while, dude. I'm perfectly fine. What do you do?"

"Well, still confine at Wheelers', assisting. But for the next three months I'm going to leave and will go job hunting, maybe in Las Vegas. Sick and tired of patients, they're too hard to handle. You know mentally ill ones."

The grin look on my face faded in no time the moment I heard Wheelers Hospital, I thought of Sadie and what she's been suffering for. But I supported my confused mind with optimism and asked, "That Sadie Wilders, know her? She's assisting in there, too."

"Remember when I just said "too hard to handle?" I was actually referring to Sadie Wilders.

"Nothing. See you around. I'm so late for work. It's nice to see you again," Brandon responded with a cheerful voice and spirited face as he turned his back running from where he stood.

At the back of his mind, "It was all clear to me. Stopped school, Wheelers everyday, unpredictable mood, self-destructive."

For over billions of people, why her? It's not that I blame God for all of these, but I don't know. I don't know what to feel and what to think of.

On a Monday at around ten o'clock in the morning, her mom called me and without any second thoughts, she told me about what happened to Sadie a few hours back.

"Brandon? Brandon! Sadie locked herself up in the bathroom and I heard the faucets harshly flowing all over the floor," Aunt Eliza called in a weakening voice.

I never asked the details and I hurriedly answered, "I will come over, Aunt. Just give me a bit."

The moment I got in to their house, I rushed my feet straight to the bathroom and violently pushed the door with my body repeatedly until the bathroom door gave up. I found Sadie as she mutilates her pulse and throat, her legs were sprawled like a dead eagle. I seized the knife at once, it was an adrenaline rush that functioned.

"Sadie! Sadie! Cool down. Brace yourself, Sadie." my voice trembled as I say those words.

She was unconscious. All of a sudden, she woke up.

"I don't know who I am, do you know me? Please tell me who I really are," she asked with tears both falling from her eyes.

Her mom heard all the conversation and had an inkling that her daughter had lost her mind. She then came across to her mislaid mind that her Sadie might bring shame to their family and before everyone gets to know what she thinks will be a family humiliation, she made a move.

Sadie Wilders was sent to Mental Health Services near Beech Bottom, hoping for her recovery if possible. She was abandoned by her family; it was such a disgrace on their part to have her around.

Days get closer and closer before her birthday, as usual, it was like another day that had gone by. Nothing special. Nothing changed.

No expert psychiatrist can cure what Sadie Wilders is going through. Because it was only a fight between her and herself. Sadie had killed the self out of her, the only way she will win. A battle that has no ending unless death follows.

I had always thought of Sadie restore to health, to tell her how I really feel, to tell her how I want to spend the rest of my days in her arms, to her alone I will taste perfection. But every time I think of things going a certain way and then they don’t, it’s very complicated to get by.

Well, it was always true that one person can get a lot done in seven months and that excludes ditching memories with Sadie, she will forever be in my heart.

In the zenith of the daybreak, birds begun singing their morning songs, and the heavens are perfumed with the fragrance of earth and sky, I can always feel the warm gentle winds crawling through my face as I walked and sat by my favorite waterfront spot beside the docks where I await the rising of the sun. The stillness haunts me. Another day, my third lifetime already started yet nothing has changed.

Sonnet 116 Interpretation

We need not marriages to consummate

So long we have the love that is ample and adequate

Love cannot be buried by imperfectly anything, anyone for it truly functions unconditionally

Hurricanes and tornados might change its extreme rapidity in no time, but heart can’t change the way it loves. No matter how perfect other people are, you can’t afford to be tempted.

My love for you has the strongest foundation, was planted in earnest position.

We breathe love every day; it directs us the way as we navigate the sea of life on the bay

The true measure of love is love without measure a saint has said. Immeasurable, cannot be quantified by billions of sparkling diamonds around the earth.

Love is timeless and ageless, everlasting and unchanging. It nurtures through the hands of time.

Those wrinkles that fold a thousand folds, I will kiss. Those big bawling eyes, I will cherish.

Even death cannot detach my heart from you, my beloved.

Come dare and prove me wrong. If I am, I wish I never wrote anything and no one, as in no one in this world has ever been in love.

More Than Just A Tradition

Every day seems like Sunday
Whether before sleep, wake up, they pray
Wherever they go, whatever they
do the words of God carry them through
They might feel lost and feel blue
By kneeling, closing their eyes they see a clearer view

The wounds of Jesus linger freshly in their hearts, that the cross
has placed in them their worth
Worshipping Him is a source of growth
To inherit the glory of His kingdom
To taste the gnashing teeth of fire and brimstone
Which path shall you take?

The heaviest measure of being a true-blooded Filipino is putting God first above all
That letting Him reign over you compared to all.
Not for the sake of keeping the tradition
But for revitalizing the spiritual incineration.

MAKE AN INDIFFERENCE?

Blinded by their mouthwatering platforms
Where does our money go?
The public struggles to death paying wordly customs yet get nothing.
When will all these stop?
Do we have to start from scratch when all that’s ever left is the scratch itself?

Centuries gone by, still, everything’s the same
A disease caused by hundreds of regime
Societal malady that can’t be cured
Sudden death is what they conjured
Swollen eyes, shrinking hearts, wits turn hypocrite

Alright not, my fellowmen, half of you gone astray
But who’s to blame? We fell on the hands of apathy, of jeopardy, of the undeserved
Cradle of our youth follows wisdom and truth
Don’t just sit awaiting nothing, letting time just slips away
Stand up instead, move forward
Lift the Motherland from its roughest grounds!

RUBBER BALL

Might have seen me anywhere there
See, with every squeeze you give me, still flexible
I appear thinner and thinner if you stretch me with all your might,
close enough to tear me apart, but, still flexible

You hit me onto the solid ground, hurt yet I bounce
Don't you worry, I wasn't made of glass, just like those of rubber ducks'
Squeeze me again 'til I swell because this heart is going to snap
I'll keep you safe and warm, sleep soundly now, even it means ripping me apart
Because no matter what you do, only to you I will bounce, keep boouncing back to you.

Linggo, Enero 22, 2012

Pressure of numbness shifts up and down my spine
Being with the man is such a harmoniously painful chime
That he had it, too - the wits of the arrogant, the spirits of the kindler
In the abyss of breaking down I slowly crawl to save my soul
Metal-skinned, hide me in your sleeves, oh! Swollen eyes and pale lips, abide me with your grief
Somewhere in the brink , constant adversary welcomes me unreservedly.

All these that I have got, is so far the worse upshot
He indirectly leads me to a place I knew and yet gone astray
Little by little I drown myself in tears  that boats sail to rescue not
Don't seek me, for my dead consciousness had already forsaken your play
Then, forgiveness what? Beseech me! You wronged me; your relenting actions deserve eternal damnation
You filthy little liar who dared entered the realm of the gods , let that soul be sold at its most agonizing cost!

To The Nth Time

You stand by the solemnity of city lights, your eyes glimmer in the darkest of the night
Still unsure of what our promises are going to look like
But with eyes closed, breathing the future in, said it will be fine tonight

I awaited your arrival over a decade now, feet still standing in the place where we should be, still feeling your shadowing nearness in me. No not this time.
The promises we have made echo in my head: interminably they wail, they grief until they vanish into the great chasm of despair.
Close those eyes, the only way we should be together is to close your eyes.

How far would you go to take risks this time? Heed me, your turn now.
The moon above your heavenly face spangle all over my lifeless chase
Hoping for silver-lined wish that we happen again, over again. Don’t go. Let’s happen again.

I’m burning a thousand miles, our distant days; I now stand where I stood. Heed me, no one’s turn now.
Give it up for yourself, your life’s worth living with another in the offing.
The love I love the most has gone away, seemed like more than impossible to pick the pieces up. No happen again.

 Impatience equals self-importance
For it only follows the desires of the impatient
And those who persevere get nothing but a dream, an empty dream!

Word Play

Sometimes we feel like when we know basic English, it is the same as knowing the entire of it−from the basic rules of grammar down to complicated ones. I’d like to emphasize that I sometimes make mistakes in English grammar, may it be in oral or written form. It’s either I unconsciously flawed the rules or I just thought that my grammar is right, it’s tricky though. I’m not perfect and neither are you.

But I wouldn’t want to teach you the grammar rules since I do not have a perfect grammar to help you through.

Things I recommend to expand your vocabulary (and your grammar, too) without breaking your head by reading Webster’s dictionary and its entire content:

  1. You buy a handy dictionary, so you will be able to bring it anywhere you go. The time when you don’t understand terms you’re unfamiliar with, consult your dictionary.
  2. Expose yourself. During your free time, spend time watching American TV shows, foreign films, or listening to music. This will help you effectively construct sentences and learn slang terms.
  3. Answer online exercises. Keep your score in an online quiz and try to go back after a week or a month, and then check how well you have improved.
  4. Play word games. Crossword puzzles, scrabble, and the like. These will challenge you to discover new words and meanings in your pursuit to expanding your vocabulary.
  5. Note the words you just have learnt by writing it down in your notebook.
  6. Learn English words through songs, sing along with the lyrics. Your bathroom is the best place to do it if you want to have a good voice.
  7. Set a goal. Learn a word or two every day.
  8. Get engaged in conversations. By simply having conversations with other people and your friends can help you learn new terms.
Put this into practice if you want to have a better vocabulary, to help you understand words that were once unfamiliar to you, and help you answer the recipient correctly. You just don’t say YES or NO without actually understanding what the speaker is trying to convey to you. Say it out loud.

Back Off The Slack Off

It takes a lot of courage and confidence for you to be able to get out of your comfort zones.

I spent almost twelve years of hauling immaturity, but during those times I was not aware that I acted like an idiot, I felt like I have made right decisions then, I always felt right. Weren’t we all? It is natural to undergo the process of being a kid, of having the mind of a kid. What we considered as grown up decisions were not anymore applicable in today’s generation. This time, I was expected to change my childish ways because college life is totally different, but it never became very hard for me to adjust since I have friends who study in the same school as mine. Having said that, it was not easy to deal with the pressures and stressors your professors implant in my moody brain, I mean, it just functions only if I want to.

I entered the University without any achievements to boast about. Highschool, I was disqualified to any of the privileges a student can consider as “something” in order to have a good start in college. Reason: I got 77 in Physics. But, I have to say that I was not running for honors then because my opponents were consistent androids since they started off drawing apples up to the time they solve complicated equations without actually sweating ice unlike me; it was very hard to take the title away from them. Ergo, instead of punching the wind, I forfeited and decided to just make friends with them to help me pass. Kidding. Sorry, I’m talking too much.

My first year in college was a thin line between slacking off and…slacking off. A year full of regrets because I was unaware about the qualifications of being a cum laude. A year later, I found out when a friend informed me. I felt sorry for myself because I had foreseen and I had the feeling that if I only passionately worked hard all throughout, I could get a hold of such cum laude. I even computed my previous grades to check how many deteriorating scores are still needed to be filled up by my future grades. Luckily, I have the chance to run for the honor, but the question of “how” cuts me down to size.

I received good grades when I was in my second year college, not that good. But satisfied enough knowing that I was moving forward and a proof to show people that I was not dumb, my brain just needed some lubricant, it rusted for a while. That I'm no dumb, I’m just black. Sure that’s a joke. Moreover, I applied as a features correspondent in our College Paper, CAS Ideas. Challenge accepted.

So there, another year, another phase of life. Third year college, I became a College Scholar carried by sheer dedication, perhaps? This is the only thing I could brag about, forgive me if it leaves you an arrogant impression. In fact, no more than 10 people knew about this.

Note: First Person POV

We Need No Superhero

She graduated three years back and now she’s 23. She set foot in the University not knowing what course to choose, and I think that’s the world’s most complicated question to ever answer by an undecided incoming freshman student, a student who cares so much about her future but a bit lazy to kick great efforts in order to make a difference. With that very low self-esteem only led her to temporarily withhold her goals in life. But now she changed, a wakeup call changed her.

Who would have imagined that Ariane got this far? A mere student then who actually never got a chance to lead her subordinates, to represent her school in competing against universities, to prove what she was able to do that others cannot.

And worse, a student who then offensively recognized at her weakest by some, because they see her future was standing on an unsupported ground. She was a relaxed student that time and was coming late every first period. A student who once aspired to get her Cum Laude…fairytale gone bad. During college, some people always claim that once a student gone bad in terms of grades, she’s gone forever but intelligence doesn’t always measure by how high your grades are. As Dumbledore said, “It is our choices that show us who we are, far more than our abilities.”

Ariane is now taking a position of being a Global Marketing Director in a business company after two years of working in the Philippines as a writer in Summit Media and as a Production Manager in Regal Films Entertainment. She just found out that working in media industry never became one of her passions−not even once, really. Hence, she left and equipped herself to head abroad.

She is the type of person who had always been dreaming of helping her fellowmen, the people who really need her help. She studied not only for her own sake, but for all the people who may eventually benefit the moment she expands money by taking her job very seriously, bawling her eyes out that she would have wanted to jab it with a tooth pick and eat them.

It might sound corny or even funny to admittedly say that she always prays to make this happen, to make her own charity for her people. Ariane never wished to take a seat in the throne of the president (whoever he/she may be). Because with the belief embedded within her, helping people doesn’t necessitate you to acquire positions first, as long as you have the call of heart, that’s more than enough. This world needs no superhero. Let the superhero within you be triggered by opening your heart and mind.

My Name Is As Common As I Am Rare

It’s super funny how my mom got the idea of my name, a name as seldom as those of junks' you see around Philippines! I do not even know what unforgettable experience the letter A had done to my parents’ life except that they met in Angeles City, mom craved for Ayskrim when she first conceived a child, my father hailed from Romblon but I regret to say that they have forgotten to consider the letter R. So they assume, naming us all A’s would be a very good choice but that only worked ages ago, not today. In my day, Ariane sounds plain and simple, it sounds like those of “stain lift” detergent powders', I feel all riled up every time people misheard, and honestly mispronounce it as “Ariel”. If only I’m getting paid once people misspell my name, I am now enjoying the comfort of my money bed.

When I was elementary, my teachers were always requiring us to make a summary about the history of our names in front of the class, like the usual, I was too shy to unravel the mystery.

The only thing I could be proud of is…I have the rare spelling. Common Ariane names would be spelled as Arriane or Arianne, which is a French name. As history suggested, my name originated from the Greek name ‘Ariadne’, the daughter of King Minos of Crete. She fell in love with an Athenian hero named Theseus who later left Ariadne on an island. The name Ariadne came from the ancient Greek words ‘ari’ which means intelligent and the other one is ‘adnis’ which means pure (as in a virgin).

There you go, let us now proceed to the according-to-my-mom side, the funny side. Avon catalog? Familiar? Mom’s hobby years back, browsing items and then pay for it within a month, three gives ang banat ni Inay para hindi maramdaman ang butas sa bulsa.

Meet me in my past life.

After College, I Promise You.

When we were kids, mothers always teach us what to do and what not to do, the difference between right and wrong, but they also have to mull all over that happiness doesn’t only dwell with where they think such can be found, that our happiness doesn’t end by their mere hypothesis, really. They will never know where for they were not able to fit in our shoes, mom’s 8 and I’m 7. What is happy for us might not be for them and vice versa. That well-mannered kid who used to do anything as she was told by her mom may eventually turn out to be surprisingly uncontrollable. Moms are naturally the ones who take the duty of putting their children under their guidance. The more we act not according to our supposed maturity, the higher the chance our parents’ armalite-like sermon is conjured.

So, I think you’re all getting bored now as much as I do and it’s fairly predictable this doesn’t even interest you at all. And since you do not want me to take this any longer, I wouldn’t. But in all due respect, this blog necessitates me to get a hold a bit of your time, bear with me, puh-lease?

Especially to daughters, parents are getting strict whenever suspicion to their kids about secretly entering into a relationship or worse, having a boyfriend, get in the way. Not that I’m purifying myself in saying that I’ve never done that, but that’s outspokenly beyond doubt.

Meeting People is Automatic

Life is, indeed, full of surprises. We unpredictably meet people every day. Our friends already passed the test of being once strangers. I must ask, why brand them as such when it is safer to just say that strangers are only friends we haven’t met? Touché.

Why did they call it “FALLING” anyway?

In viewing the full history of humankind, all of us experience to fall in love, to love, and be loved. To prove:  When Delilah falls for Samson after she betrayed him. When Jack hangs himself onto the wall panel leaving half of his body soaked in the freezing ocean, letting Rose to stay alive, there Jack follows his demise. When, upon knowing Juliet's death, Romeo drinks poison and died for her. When, by reason of friendship, Ron and Hermione progressively fall for each other. When Narcissus sees his own reflection in the waters and falls for himself, and countless others. The thing is, no matter how trying hard you are or become to turn over the idea in its farthest angle, the gist remains still. Well, in my case, I am not the kind of person who falls in love easily, hindi ako pa-hard to get or ready to get. It just comes naturally. Anyways, it is just too ironic because in reality, when you fall, it hurts. In love, when you fall, almost perfection. Unless you are under the influence of zero gravity, you wouldn’t be legally responsible to struggle for pain. However, happy are those who do not experience pain, but strong are those who dare fight pain right where it hurts, right where it hurts, right where it hurts. :)

Mothers Know Best, ALWAYS

It is no surprise every time parents rebuke repeatedly, just as the statement goes: “Anak, wag ka munang mag boboyfriend, magtapos ka muna ng kolehiyo at magtrabaho. Dahil kung mahal ka talaga ng isang tao, kahit gaano pa katagal, hihintayin ka nya.” Today’s generation may get the idea wrong, or may be having a hard time to unravel the essence behind the statement all by themselves. I must also admit that I used to complicate what that really meant. But moms are the greatest interpreters because they have already set foot on such fairytale-gone-bad story, or more likely learned from others’ mistakes. Believe.

She always reminds me, “After college”, every time she’s having an inkling about guys pursuing me. I promise her I’m going to fulfill the promise I made. I won’t ever fail my mom especially 2 years nalang tapos nako ng college.

Mothers always know best. Good thing, unlike some other guys, moms do not have expiration dates.

Plentiful of NEVER BEENS.

It's been a couple of years since I have fallen out of love. It was strangely years back then. I don't even remember when I got lost, stumbled, and stood up again because since then you know that I have never been.

Several years had passed and here I am again, like the usual, waiting for him to come along. It may be stupid to write something about someone whom I never met, he's no stranger to me, really, because this picture of him I always look at like he's actually beside me, silhouette-faced man. For once, it's me who imagines life to be spent with somebody I waited for a very long time. I have these wishes written in my list, probably we can make these all come true...hopefully together.

I'm being patient because I know he's worth my while.

Am I too ambitious to ask for a man like him? I don't think so. God wants to give me the best, His best shot. :)

I have here...plentiful of never beens. These are the gifts I want to give him, rarely beveled into a woman's heart.

Who knows that one day, you'll see, it's going to be me. :))

Character works best only if you are somebody else.

It just keeps me wonder why people of the modern world overemphasize and overlook what discerns character, substance, and corporeal and what might go you forth. But without the third one would be as perfect as it can be that no one can win over you provided that you know to employ your position. And if the second one, the thing you do not have. Worry not my friend, character works best in real world. Modern world and real world are different things, you must move over your routine of not knowing. Kfine now? Modern world almost functions to evil deeds, the worst planet where an innocent one does not deserve to live.

Lions in the den will be your pit if you get heed this advice and you’re not somebody else, good thing they have to bulk up. Oops! I was just kidding, Filipino sense of humor, you know? I need to get one.

     Moving on…

All these kinds of people who always dig you at your weirdest are really weird. All of them, I want to nail them while wearing their loyal uniforms, yes you read it right, loyal UNIFORMS. So the entire human race will only be proud if they are going to pay a tribute to their memory. I shall participate to eulogize, by the way.

Tips to consider that you are a weirdo:

  • Don’t drink liquors. EVER!

For long hours, people attach themselves in merrymaking and keep telling I’m weird because of having a high sense of control. I do not drink, ever. Believe me. Ohh, I forgot! A high school reunion, I was first year college then when I pioneered a tansan (like a tansan of 240mL RC Cola) of Soju, a distilled beverage native from Korea (just googled it). That served my punishment of refusing to dance in front of my classmates. I don’t dance! Seems that I was strangled with a ghost when I drank one while pinching my nose.

  • Don’t go to church every Thursday.

Some of my friends ADVISE me to just not attend church after our P.E Class since we have one more day to compensate and repent to your sins when you didn’t attend Thursday service. How good the advice has been? Haha.

  •  Don’t say bad words.

I have to admit that I say bad words when I was a kid, influenced by the morons. I, therefore, come clean when I say that I am one of the morons. Guilty as charged. I stopped throwing unforgiving words when I entered High School. But you can’t easily get rid and be still if someone provokes you to do so. Once in a blue moon, you don’t want to hear me say a thing. When my mouth starts to angrily speak out, this is what I can offer you: “Sira ulo ka!” and “Langya ka!” Does it hurt?

  • Show them your wacky pose. It is necessary.

This topic holds all the answers if you want to be a weirdo.

     To be continued…

Break it to me gently

The Shampoo, The Lovely Parents, and The White Torso

Okay, okay. Finally hanging on the dashboard now. I don’t know if I could sustain the perpetuity of this blog, I can’t enjoy the risky feeling of being a hardworking person without complaining.

Do not know what I mean? Maybe I should flip it this way: Yes, I’m lazy and idle during vacations; I know that you know the feeling of not getting a job, of struggling to convince your parents to give you 6 pesos in buying your shampoo when your sister hid the bottled one inside her bag and enjoyed swimming. And I’m planning to lend her my swimsuit from where I got my farmer’s tan, I bought that stupid top for compliance. Our teacher in water polo advised us to use a chlorine-resistant fabric so that it wouldn’t feel weighty when we get into the pool, comfortable…that’s it.

But since it is quite expensive than a sleeveless you wear during weekends, our teacher also advised the latter (my parents will feel so lucky to hear this!). Eventually, l bought chlorine-resistant fabric instead. Okay, don’t want to talk about anything that will remind me to this white torso! Enough of that.

The Cliffhanger and The Morons

It is the not knowing what happen that excites me. I worship surprises especially when I’m having the inkling that it would steer me to motivating upshot. Forget about the off-putting reality, it frustrates me.

March 21-24, the morning sun consecutively came like a bolt from the blue. I disciplined myself to wake up each day at exactly 7:00am, if not exactly, closely, to head for a job hunt. It is me, picturing myself as a call center agent (summer job only). Where in the world a college student would have to wish to be a call center agent after graduation? A big no, no! It was not even written in my bucketlist. I promised myself not to be one of them, I want a job to where my skills will never blunt. Writing, you know. But I’m not saying that I’m a good writer, just in point of mediocrity. But I agreed to enter the said job to alleviate boredom and, ofcourse, for money. I need money, money, money. We must not forget the price tag.

Fast forward! I was sitting in the room with a bunch of morons staring at me from head to toe, the thing I really hate most! I was just wearing my black college shirt written in orange, red, and gray hieroglyphics: Where Great Ideas Begin. It is not literally written in a form of hieroglyphics, but for a brilliant kind like you. You know what I mean.

It will be taking you a lot of time if I choose to give you the details, to cut the long story short. I will make it this way:

After the interview, they told us to droop our face out for a while. And after a few minutes, they announced the names who passed the interview. Out of five interviewees, only two passed. The boy from HAU and through God’s grace, I, too, passed. Fed up with the words “passed”? Forgive me. I ran out of words.

I shall have to end this na, I passed the interview and said they will just notify us through phone call when we’ll have to start our training. I’m waiting for 2 weeks and 4 days already! Still, no one called. No one called. No one called from the company! Susugod ako dun, bwisit. Sinabing kailangan ko ng trabaho e! Hindi ako makapunta dahil maaga na ang 11am sa akin. Grrr.

I'm just an ordinary student longing for a job. :(
